Author of the Day: Sonya Ray

Introducing Author Sonya Ray:

I grew up in Southeast Missouri; home of the Throwed Rolls, high cotton, and the Cards! I have two great kids. Shae is 20 and very artistic. Jordan is 15 and is a freshman in high school and serious gamer.

Besides reading and writing, I enjoy singing. I love music period! Music is in our family. Whether it be the bluegrass from the Ozarks that my Grandpa Sutton use to play on his banjo or fiddle, or the smooth, family harmony in which I am fortunate enough to sing with my Dad and Brother. But you can give me some kickin' AC/DC too! I like it all!

I enjoy gardening and love being outside. I like to fish, as long as the fish are biting more than the mosquitoes! I love me a good football game (go Packers!) and hearing the crack of a bat (go Cardinals!)

I work full-time as an accounting clerk at Confluent Technology Group. Every free moment is dedicated to my family and my current project, Sweet Tea, Volume I of The Three Crowns series, a seven-novel paranormal romance series.

Sweet Tea’s origins began with a simple request from my daughter.  I had always written, whether it be poems, short stories, plays, songs; but life became busy and I stopped.  One December, my daughter, son, and I were sitting at the kitchen table and out of the blue she suggested I should start writing again.  She went on and requested for me to write a story about a girl on a ranch who loves horses and has fun with all of her friends.  I told her I would think about it and within a week, I was writing Sweet Tea.  I never dreamed this request would turn into seven novels--and paranormal at that!  I jumped on Twitter, my Editor, J. Cameron McClain thankfully found me and encouraged me to self-publish, and here we are!

Sweet Tea is scheduled to come out sometime this summer.  A cover reveal will be coming soon!

Q & A with Sonya:

Q: WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE AN AUTHOR?

I have always written words in some form or another; whether it be in short stories, plays,
poems, but I just did it for me.  It wasn’t until recently that I even considered the possibility
of publishing my work.  My Editor, J. Cameron McClain, friended me on Twitter and right
away encouraged me to put my work out there.

Q: WHAT WAS YOUR MAGICAL MOMENT OR INSPIRATION FOR YOUR FIRST PLOT?

Life became a little hectic and I stopped writing for a time.  But it was my daughter who
suggested I start writing again.  She asked me to write a story about a girl on a ranch
who loves horses and hangs out with all of her friends.  I believe the title, Sweet Tea,
came to me first because Sweet Tea is part of our life in Missouri and I knew I wanted
the book to be based on a young girl from this area.  But my imagination got the best of
me and the simple girl from Missouri got a twist and her Sweet Tea became very unique.
Not only that, but her story took seven novels to tell!

Q: CAN YOU GIVE US A LITTLE SNEAK DESCRIPTION OF WHAT WE CAN LOOK
FORWARD TO?

Absolutely!  Sweet Tea is the first book in The Three Crowns series.  Elizabeth
Lancaster is your typical high school senior surrounded by great friends and hopes for
the future. But there are dark secrets that loom in her world waiting in the shadows to be
brought to life.  Unexplainable occurrences weave into Lizzie’s life, as well in her dreams.

But Lizzie is not the type to entertain paranormal beliefs.  When a mysterious
stranger enters her life and fate steps out of the shadows, change is inevitable. And,
although not a believer of the paranormal world, she subconsciously starts comparing
her everyday life to the story of The Three Crowns.

And so begins the long journey of Lizzie Lancaster discovering and accepting who she
really is and who she is to become.

Q: IF YOU HAD TO PICK A FAVORITE CHARACTER FROM A BOOK, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Hmmm.  Well, my all time favorite book is Pride and Prejudice (can you believe it - not
even paranormal!) I love the character Elizabeth Bennet.  She was always herself.  She
spoke her mind freely, even when it wasn’t considered socially acceptable for a woman
to express herself in such way in 19th Century England.  But I also loved that she knew
exactly who she was and when love formed in her heart from an unlikely source, she
believed in herself enough to allow a new part of her to come to life.

Q: FUTURE PROJECTS:

Sure! The Three Crowns series has seven books total, with Sweet Tea being volume
one.  The other six books are written and I know how this story ends ;).  But they all have
to go through my rockin’ Editor.  So once Sweet Tea is published, we go immediately to
volume two.  After The Three Crowns series is complete, I have another series that is
patiently waiting for me to finish. Plus a Chic-Lit that is halfway written, I just need more
time to write! Not to mention all the other stories floating around in my head.  But we will
get there!

Looks like we have ALOT to look forward to from this fresh new author !
